For the month of October I have set a personal challenge to attend my yoga studio ( YYoga ) for every day of October. As the month will be filled with all sorts of getting in shape and forming good habits, I decided to try out The Paleo Diet for the next 30 days as well. I have created a little ‘Paleo Diet For Dummies” as I wanted to know more information about it and figured most people do too.

THE PALEO DIET IN A NUTSHELL:

” If a caveman couldn’t eat it, neither should you.” The Paleo Diet is an effort to eat like humans used to thousands of years ago as cavemen.

WHAT YOU CAN EAT:

Things humans could hunt or find – meats, fish, regional veggies, fruits, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, etc..

WHAT YOU CAN’T EAT:

Things humans can’t hunt of find – grains, sugar, breads, cereal, pasta, processed foods, etc…

WHY THE PALEO DIET:

North America’s current eating habits are making people fat; 66% of Americans are overweight.

WHY ARE PEOPLE FAT?

Back in the day the average human was: Tall, muscular, agile, athletic and incredibly versatile.  When humans discovered farming, the agricultural revolution took off and humans advanced from hunter-gatherers to farmers. The problem is, the human body never adjusted properly to eating all the grains that we were now farming resulting in the human race gaining tremendous amounts of weight.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Paleo Diet eliminates: sugars, grains and processed foods because they cause raised blood sugar which is toxic for your body.  When your body has high blood sugar it releases insulin to reduce blood sugar and to convert it into energy. Your body can only burn so much, so your body stores the rest as fat. For energy our bodies need sugars from fruits and vegetables not pastries.

THE PALEO DIET is an effort to go back to eating how we were biologically designed to eat, allowing us to tap into our genetic potential and start living healthier immediately.
